Took a stab at another caricature portrait. It’s supposed to be William Levy…not sure if I did a very good job of capturing his likeness. This was done using a mechanical pencil and digitally colored.
Tongue is supposed to be hanging out one side, bottom lip is supposed to be hanging out the other. I realized I kinda screwed that up, but that’s what it’s supposed to be.
Same picture, but digital color added. It’s gonna take me a long time to get the hang of that…
My first “live” caricature. Kelly offered herself up as my first victim. Took about 20 minutes. Botched the nose, and art style is inconsistent in my opinion. I’m trying to stick to straight solid lines, thus, the cross hatching. Fighting the urge to shade is colossal and overbearing. Smudging is a real issue as well…I need to get that paper and tape it to my drawing hand or something.
Here’s a self portrait/caricature sketch of the idiot himself. Just working on some stuff I’ve been picking up…it’s half real/half caricature.
Was up late and couldn’t sleep so I doodled a bit and this is what came out; two imaginary ladies and a poke at Rick Santorum. Doesn’t look a thing like him, of course, but there — whoever he is — is.
All of my ink work so far has been exclusively in pen…until tonight. I actually went out and got some india ink and a quill pen with a set of nibs to try my hand at what they call “real inking.” This is my first shot at it, so I thought I’d toss it up for posterity.
I’ve been really struggling with hands and feet since I started back up with this whole drawing thing. So I’ve been challenging myself by drawing lots of hands in goofy positions, looking for, and drawing people with interesting hand positions, and drawing in ink.
Ink forces the issue, unlike pencil which I can simply erase and try again. These are a coupla random scribblings I did tonight, with a focus on hands, and I really, really want the deft confidence ink instills. It looks like I’m quite a ways off as these scribblings illustrate (pun intended) but I would be disingenuous if I hid my failings. Besides, I want an archive of these things, good or bad, over time, so I can evaluate my progress and adjust my attention accordingly, especially if I’m gonna take this drawing stuff seriously.
I’m just punching in random celebrity photographs into google images and drawing what pops out.
